Megan Longnecker, a senior double major in history and management, has received the Ethel A. Spedding Scholarship in History. The scholarship is given annually to a student who "possesses a inquisitive mind and 'spark' - someone who has an intellectual curiosity and passion toward their field and has the ability to creatively communicate and effectively share their knowledge with others." Kate Wiebke received the Clarence Matterson Undergraduate Student Paper Award. A graduating senior in history, Wiebke wrote a paper on Elizabeth I and the English Reformation, describing how Elizabeth's reign turned England from a Catholic country to the Church of England. Angie Gumm was the recipient of the Clarence Matterson Graduate Student Paper Award for a paper on the politics of hazardous waste dumping in New Jersey and a well-known case of the City of Philadelphia against the State of New Jersey which went to the U.S. Supreme Court. |
