Sciences Teacher Licensure Requirements:
Major in Political Science
Students majoring in Political Science and seeking teacher licensure
in History/Social Sciences must meet the following content and methodology
requirements:
Complete an endorsement in American Government:
-
Take POL S 215 and 12 credits from: 241, 251,
305, 306, 310, 344, 357, 358, 359, 360, 361, 371, 381, 385, 406,
410, 413, 420, 421, 433, 453, 464.
-
Earn a minimum grade of C in all content courses
used for the endorsement.
Complete one course in World Politics:
-
Choose one course from: POL S 241, 251, 340,
341, 342, 343, 346, 349, 350, 356, 422, 430, 431, 440, 451, or 452.

Complete a second endorsement in either American or World
History:

A minor in History requires at least 15 credits of History, including
9 taken at ISU at the 300+ level.
Complete the following courses while fulfilling the LAS General
Education Requirements:

- ENGL 250 (3 cr. – previously ENGL 105)
- PSYCH 230 (3 cr.)

- Participate in an international experience, including international
student teaching, course-related travel abroad, or volunteer work
with an international program on campus.
Complete the Professional Education Courses in Curriculum
and Instruction (C I) and apply for admission to the University Teacher
Education Program (UTEP):
Prior to applying for UTEP admission, complete the following:
- Maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.5 or higher.
- Earn a minimum grade of C in all C I, SP ED, or HD FS courses.
- C I 202 (3 cr. – previously C I 201)
- C I 204 (3 cr.)
- C I 280L (0.5 cr.): Prerequisite for admission to UTEP.
- C I 219 (R cr.): Taken with C I 280L.

- Apply for admission to the University Teacher Education Program
(UTEP) at least two semesters prior to student teaching. For information,

- C I 480A (1 cr.): Taken in conjunction with C I 496.
- C I 417A (16 cr.): Student Teaching (normally completed one's last
semester).
