Scholarships,
best papers awarded in the Department of History
The Department of History at Iowa State University has recognized three
students with scholarships or awards for best papers.
Among the recipients were:
Ryan Austin, graduate student in the History of Technology
and Science Ph.D. program, received the 2007 Clarence Matterson Award
for Best Graduate Paper. Austin received his award for his paper on
the origins of the telephone in Ames.
Justin Ott, a graduating senior who will enroll in
the graduate program in history at Iowa State, won the 2007 Clarence
Matterson Award for Best Undergraduate Paper. His paper was on the Napoleonic
Wars and the significance of the naval battle at Trafalgar.
Maxwell Gulden, a junior history major, received the
2007 Frank H. and Ethel A. Spedding Scholarship in History. This is
the second year for this scholarship.
