Spring 2005 graduates
The Department of History congratulates all of its spring graduates.
This spring, the Agricultural History and Rural Studies Program, awarded
a Ph.D. to Ginette Aley. Her dissertation is entitled
"Westward Expansion, John Tipton, and the Emergence of the American
Midwest, 1800-1839." Dr. Aley has accepted a tenure track position
at the University of Southern Indiana as their Early America historian.
The department awarded five Master's degrees to the following students:
Jeff Graney
Creative Component: Winemaking in Antiquity
Mr. Graney intends to pursue further academic studies in Spain.
Dan Jones
MA Thesis: A History of Broom Corn in Iowa
Mr. Jones will continue as Director of Educational Programs at the
Living History Farms in Des Moines.
David Rittgers
Creative Component: United States in Haiti, 1991-1994
Mr. Rittgers intends to go on to law school. He has been accepted
at Iowa, Drake, and Minnesota.
Matthew Voz
Creative Component: Politicizing Paint: The Persistence of Russian
Artistic Tradition Across the Revolutionary Divide
Mr. Voz will be managing a Permacultural Organic Farm and teaching
history at Youth Initiative Waldorf High School in Viroqua, Wisconsin.
Rick Woten
MA Thesis: Navigating the era of internal improvements: The Des
Moines River Land Grant
Mr. Woten will pursue a PhD in the Rural and Agricultural History
program at Iowa State.
