Bio

I am a nineteenth century African Americanist by training. However, my teaching and research interests include themes in both the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. I am presently a professor of history and director of the African and African American Studies Program (AAAS). I teach a combination of African and African American History/Studies courses. A native of Nigeria, I came to the United States in 1990 after working in the Nigerian University system for about a decade. I was hired in 2006 at Iowa State to teach in, and administer, the AAAS Program. Prior to coming to Iowa State, I taught in several American universities including the Ohio State University (Columbus, Ohio), Loyola University of New Orleans, Louisiana, North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, Tulane University (New Orleans, Louisiana), and the University of Montana.
