50th Anniversary Junto Meeting
The Fiftieth annual meeting of the Midwest Junto for the History of Science was held April 13-15, 2007, at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. In addition to the standard program of excellent papers in the history of science, medicine, and technology (available here), this meeting included a number of special events designed to celebrate the Junto's fiftieth anniversary. Our opening reception at the ISU Parks Library Special Collections department featured special tours of the ISU archives, followed by ISU graduate student Gary Cameron's presentation, "History's Astronomical Mysteries," in the ISU planetarium. Our Junto banquet featured special anniversary presentations, excerpted here, along with the Stuart Pierson Memorial Lecture delivered by Dr. Alan E. Shapiro (University of Minnesota) and titled, "Newton's Opticks: Thirty Years in the Making." University of Oklahoma representatives brought a sampling of material from the Junto archive collection and put together a display of photographs and documents illustrating Junto history.
